Prescription Safety Glasses are required to comply with Australian Safety Standard AS/NZS 1337.6 which specifies the minimum requirements for prescription eye protectors for both low and medium impact. Prescription Safety Glasses must also meet the same prescription requirements and tolerances as any other prescription spectacles as set out in AS/ NZS 21987. The Australian Safety Standard AS/NZS 1337.6 requires Prescription Safety Glasses to meet a higher standard of impact resistance when compared to regular spectacles or sunglasses. Where the requirements of the two standards conflict, the eye protection standard takes priority. You can rest assured that all Prescription Safety Glasses packages supplied by Eye Protect meet or exceed Australian Safety Standard AS/NZS 1337.6.
With over 100 different models of Prescription Safety Glasses frames to choose from, we have a prescription safety frame to suit all personal preferences and working environments. Key features on prescription safety frames to look out for include:
Prescription Safety Glasses can be supplied with single vision lenses, bifocal lenses, computer vision & reading lenses, and multifocal lenses. The type of lens used depends on the wearer’s prescription and what the Prescription Safety Glasses will be used for.
Single Vision: Can be used for reading, computer use or distance vision.
Bifocals: Bifocal lenses have two distinct segments, most commonly an upper segment for seeing into the distance and a lower segment for reading and other close tasks. The typical shape for the lower portion is a sideways 'D'.
Computer Vision & Reading (Multifocal): Designed to allow the wearer to view clearly both a computer screen as well as reading material. These lenses have two different focusing areas, the top of the lens for focusing on a computer screen and the bottom of the lens for reading close up.
Multifocal: Multifocal lenses enable objects at more than one distance to be brought into focus. They are able to do this by having different sections within the same lens devoted to different visual tasks. For wearers requiring optical correction at different distances, multifocal lenses can assist with visual clarity at reading, intermediate and distance intervals.
Prescription Safety Glasses are supplied with clear untinted lenses as standard. Lenses can be tailored with tinted lenses to suit the wearer’s working environment and to increase the wearer’s comfort, vision and protection. QUICK TIP: Whilst clear lenses can be used outdoors, where regular work occurs outdoors, the wearer should have a second pair of Prescription Safety Glasses with sunglass or polarised lenses.
Clear lenses: Most versatile type of prescription safety lenses as they can be used indoors, outdoors and in low light conditions.
Sunglasses lenses: Are optimal for outdoor environments to reduce the the discomfort and disabling effects of bright light.
Polarised lenses: Cut out glare and increase vision quality outdoors by reducing visual noise. Are ideal for environments where there is a high degree of bright sunlight and glare.
Photochromic lenses: Utilise variable tint technology designed to quickly adapt from clear indoors to tinted outdoors. A great option for workers working both indoors and outdoors who want a single pair of Prescription Safety Glasses.
All prescription safety lenses supplied by Eye Protect come with a free anti-scratch coating (Hardcoat) to minimise scratching of lenses. The anti-scratch coating can be upgraded to an anti-scratch and anti-reflective coating (Multicoat) to minimise glare and to improve comfort.
